Man Convicted Of Robbing And Killing Noel Banker, Dies
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Missouri man convicted of kidnapping a bank president who was later killed has died in a North Carolina prison.
The North Carolina medical examiner's office says Joseph Agofsky died March 5 at the prison where he was serving a life sentence.
An autopsy is pending but foul play is not suspected. Agofsky and his brother Shannon were convicted of kidnapping Dan Short at his home in Sulphur Springs, Ark., in 1989 and driving him to nearby Noel, Mo., where he was a bank president.
The brothers took an estimated $71,000 - then drove to northeast Oklahoma where they tied Short to a chair and threw him alive into Grand Lake to drown.
Joseph Agofsky was acquitted of murder - Shannon Agofsky was convicted. Both were sentenced to life.
