(MissouriNet) - The Missouri Department of Economic Development says the state unemployment rate is now at it's lowest point in more than five years.

Spokesman John Fougere says while the unemployment has fallen by three percent, Missouri payrolls have decreased by 47 hundred jobs.

He says the DED looks at the long term trend and what they see is more positive for the state economy.

Fougere says the Missouri unemployment rate at six point five percent compares to the national rate at seven point nine percent.
