Snow, Crashes Cause Hours Of Backups On I-70 In Columbia
I-70 in Columbia Now Open
COLUMBIA, MO – Interstate 70 at Route 63 in Columbia has reopened to traffic after multiple accidents and stalled vehicles caused traffic to back up on the snow-covered interstate.
Missouri Department of Transportation crews, along with law enforcement and emergency responders, worked since early afternoon to clear stalled vehicles and get traffic moving again. Traffic is still moving slowly, and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
“We want to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during this closure,” said Central District Engineer David Silvester. “We understand the inconvenience this caused for mid-Missouri travelers.”
Many of the state’s highways remain covered to partly covered at this time, and travel is not advised unless absolutely necessary. Motorists can get the latest road conditions by checking out MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org or by calling toll-free 1-888-275-6636.
