Teen Who Was Fatally Injured Belonged To "Knockout Gang"
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Arrest records show a 15-year-old burglary suspect who was killed by a St. Louis homeowner also was a suspected member of the so-called "Knockout Gang" that attacked a man.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that that Demetrius Murphy was among six juveniles charged with punching a 53-year-old man in October 2011. But the case fell apart after a 13-year-old witness failed to show up in court.
Police said Friday that Murphy was shot and killed while trying to break into a home with another teen, 17-year-old Michael Bryant III. Police say the homeowner was justified.
Bryant faces a second-degree murder charge because Murphy's death occurred during the commission of a felony in which Bryant is a suspect.
