Bill Would Lift Statute Of Limitations On Child Sex Abuse Cases
(Missourinet) - State lawmakers are considering a measure that would drop the statutes of limitations on prosecuting criminal and civil cases of child abuse and child sexual abuse.
Backers say too often children are afraid to talk about what happened until many years later and then it may be too late.
Missouri has a ten year statute of limitations for civil cases and a 30 year statute on prosecuting criminal cases after the victim has turned 18.
Backers say repeal would have the greatest impact when there are multiple victims.
A proposal to lift the statutes is now being debated in the House.
