The Springfield-Branson National Airport is waiting to see what kind of effect the merger between American Airlines and U.S. Airways will have here.

Spokesman Kent Boyd says not a lot will change right away.

But he says ticket prices could go up.

Boyd says 30 years ago, there were 40 airlines serving the American public, and now there are ten.

Boyd says the reduced competition could lead to higher ticket prices.

He says travelers could see more options flying from Springfield to Dallas.

The future of American Airlines employees in Springfield could be affected.

American has about 200 workers in Springfield, including a repair shop for regional jets.
