Northern Iowa Takes 42-35 Halftime Lead Over MSU Lady Bears
The Northern Iowa Panthers have hit seven three pointers in the first half, jumping out to a 13 point lead before settling for a 42-35 halftime advantage over the MSU Lady Bears at JQH Arena.
Former Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Jacqui Kalin has 17 points to lead the Panthers, and has hit three shots from beyond the arc.
The two teams started fast out of the gates, with five lead changes in the first five and a half minutes before UNI went on a 13-0 run to pull ahead 19-8 with 12:16 left in the half.
The Lady Bears chipped away and were able to get the Panthers' lead down to three points, 35-32, when Kenzie Williams hit a layup with 2:36 remaining.
But Kalin answered with another three and Northern Iowa got the lead back up to seven at the end of the half.
Williams has nine points to lead MSU, followed by Hannah Wilkerson with eight and Karly Buer with seven.
The Lady Bears are hitting 37.5% from the field (9-24) and are two of six from the three point line. UNI is shooting 39.5% (15-38).
MSU leads on the boards 20 rebounds to 18, but the Lady Bears have committed nine turnovers.
Missouri State comes into this afternoon's game 12-10 overall, 4-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference. UNI is 10-12, 5-5.
