Avilla School District Planning Tornado Shelter
A tornado safe room is in the works for students in Avilla.
The school district green-lighted the project at the end of last year. Officials say they're now waiting on the site to be surveyed.
The superintendent says once the school board approves the design, they can go out for bids. FEMA grants would cover 75% of the $600,000 project.
The shelter is expected to take between six and eight months to build.
