New Concrete Being Poured On Bridge Ramp

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A contractor will use its own money to replace a nearly quarter-mile stretch of concrete on a ramp that will carry vehicles toward a Mississippi River bridge being built between St. Louis and Illinois.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Illinois Department of Transportation last fall discovered an issue with the slope of the concrete on a curving section of the ramp.
The redo isn't expected to affect the overall schedule of the new bridge, which is to open early next year.
Officials with contractor Fred Weber Inc. say the issue is their mistake and the company will absorb the cost.
The new bridge would divert Interstate 70 traffic from an existing bridge that's one of two in the nation to accommodate three freeways.
