(Missourinet) - Veterans groups are asking state lawmakers to implement treatment courts around the state to specifically help veterans in trouble with the law.

A House committee has taken up a measure that would treat vets with post traumatic stress disorder or addiction problems  when they break the law instead of sending them to jail.

The Missouri Association of Veterans Organizations says this is a priority measure for them this session.

The same committee has also taken up a measure that would give educational credits to veterans for training they learned in the military that would transfer to civilian credentials.

There is no know opposition in the legislature, and the measures have the backing of Missouri prosecutors.
