If you get a call from someone who says you have large sums of debt due to creditors and refusing to pay is threatened with harsh legal challenges, it's probably a scam.
The Better Business Bureau of Southwest Missouri says the callers are trying to get folks to give credit card information and social security numbers over the telephone immediately.
The debts you supposedly owe have reached numbers near $800. When you question the company you're informed the debt is for, you're told there is no debt on file for you.
The BBB offers these tips if you get such a call:
Folks who get these calls and have contact information for the supposed debt collectors are encouraged to file a complaint at www.bbb.org.
