Police are working to ID a man struck and killed by a car in south Springfield late Tuesday night.
Lt. Greg Wheelan says the man is around 20. The victim was walking across Campbell Avenue at Weaver Road just before 10 p.m. when he got hit by the southbound car.
According to witnesses, the car had a green light.
Lt. Wheelan says alcohol does not appear to have played a role, though the weather may get some of the blame. In addition to the roads being slick, he says it's tougher to see clearly when it's raining - particularly at night.
After realizing he hit something, Wheelan says the southbound driver lost control and knocked out a road sign as he spun through the intersection, ending up in the northbound lanes facing that direction.
