From A Press Release

In August 2012, the gauntlet was thrown down between Nixa Mayor Sam Clifton and Ozark Mayor Shane Nelson with another friendly wager to benefit a local Care to Learn program.

The $500 wager was over who would win the annual Nixa-Ozark football game, also known as the annual Backyard Brawl, held Oct. 5, 2012, with the funds going to the winning city’s Care to Learn program. As difficult as it was for Mayor Clifton and the citizens of Nixa to swallow, Ozark won the hard-fought brawl 41 to 21.

Clifton will present a $500 check, from his own pocketbook, to Ozark Mayor Shane Nelson and representatives from Ozark’s Care to Learn program at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Ozark’s City Hall, 205 N. 1st Street.

This bet goes back to 2011 when the two mayors wagered $250 on the annual game. Nixa won that bet.
