Toddler Goes For Overnight Walk
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A 2-year-old central Missouri boy is in protective state custody after he went for a walk in the middle of the night.
The Cole County sheriff's department says a citizen found the toddler around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on a street in an unincorporated area just outside Jefferson City.
Deputies knocked on doors throughout an apartment complex, but no one could identify the child.
Sheriff Greg White says a woman called authorities around 4 a.m. saying she was the toddler's legal guardian. The woman said she'd left the boy with a 13-year-old at the complex while she went shopping Tuesday night.
The teen told officials he fell asleep around 11 p.m. and didn't hear the little boy leave the apartment.
