Arkansas House: Flat Salaries For Elected Officials
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas House has decided that pay austerity ought to start at home, approving a budget proposal that keeps salaries flat for the state's elected officials.
Lawmakers voted unanimously Tuesday to level-fund the salaries of officials in the executive and judicial branches of government in the coming fiscal year.
Last week a legislative committee decided against providing prosecutors and judges with a 2-percent cost-of-living adjustment. Legislative leaders say they are open to revisiting that salary increase later this session.
Lawmakers are also considering a proposal to provide a cost of living increase for all state employees.
The Legislature returned to the Capitol Tuesday after a four-day break.
