Paul VI Defeats Springfield Hillcrest 69-49 In Tournament Of Champions

The Hillcrest Hornets have jumped into the loser's bracket at the 29th Annual Bass Pro Tournament Of Champions in Springfield.

Paul VI out of Fairfax, Virginia pulled away in the third quarter to defeat the Hornets 69-49 at JQH Arena.

Hillcrest had a 14-10 advantage after the first quarter before Paul VI scored 20 in the second frame to go up 30-23 at the half.

Franklin Howard's 15 points and Kevin Dorsey's 14 paced the Panthers, while Thomas Whitaker led Hillcrest with 14 points. Austin Petry added 11.

The Panthers shot an amazing 65.1% from the field (23-43), and did it without hitting a three pointer (0-3). Hillcrest shot 32.6% (15-46), while draining seven of 25 three point attempts.

Hillcrest will take on Prestonwood Christian from Plano, Texas in the first consolation semifinal of the tournament Friday afternoon at 4:30.
