The MSU Bears have used a 13-0 run late in the first half to take a 32-25 halftime lead over Illinois State tonight at JQH Arena.

The Bears jumped out to a 12-5 lead and stayed on top until Illinois State's Jon Ekey hit a three pointer with 5:43 left in the half to give the Redbirds an 18-17 advantage.

It didn't last long as MSU senior Anthony Downing drained a three pointer with 3:35 left to give the Bears a 22-20 lead.

Downing then hit a deep three at the 1:11 mark to put his team up by ten, 30-20, before the Redbirds scored five of the last seven points before the intermission.

Downing has 11 points to lead the Bears, while Illinois State's Johnny Hill has 11 to lead the Redbirds.

The Bears come into tonight's game at 4-11 overall, but off to a 2-1 start in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Redbirds, who were picked second in the Valley in the preseason poll, are 9-6 overall, but off to an 0-3 start in league play.
