MSU Bears Lead Southern Illinois 39-32 At Halftime
The MSU Bears lead Southern Illinois 39-32 at the half in their Missouri Valley Conference opener at JQH Arena.
The Bears used a 12-3 run to open up a 37-25 lead, capped by Marcus Marshall's three pointer.
But the Salukis hit two three's in the final four minutes of the half, including one by Jalen Pendleton with 58 seconds left to get his team within seven.
Missouri State is shooting the ball well (13-24, 54.2%), and the Bears have drained six three pointers in 11 attempts. The Salukis have put up similar numbers (12-23, 52.2% and 7-11 from the three point line).
The Bears, who have also struggled at the free throw line this season, are a perfect 7-7.
Salukis Coach Barry Hinson got a nice hand from the Missouri State fans when he was introduced before the game. Hinson coached the Bears for nine seasons.
MSU comes into today's action 2-10 overall, with an eight game losing streak and losers of their last 15 games against Division I opponents dating back to last season.
SIU is 7-4 on the season.
