Parkview, Bolivar, Republic And Branson Advance In Gold Division

  • Reeds Spring's Austin Selby Guarded By Bolivar's Devin Archer In Quarterfinal Round Play In The Gold Division At JQH Arena

The Branson Pirates continued the day of upsets as the quarterfinals of the 67th Annual Greenwood Blue and Gold Tournament drew to a close Thursday night at MSU.

The Pirates, seeded sixth in the Gold Division, topped third seeded Willard 58-49 at JQH Arena. Branson became the second #6 to advance Thursday, with Mt.Vernon defeating third seeded Rogersville 80-62 in the Blue Division. They join seventh seeded Ozark (Blue Division) in knocking off higher ranked teams.

Branson was clinging to a 26-25 lead at halftime, but opened it up to 45-37 at the end of the third period.

Da'Quan Ervin had 20 points to lead the Pirates. Willard's 6-4 junior shooting sensation Chris Kendrix put in 19 for the Tigers.

The Republic Tigers are headed to the Gold Division semis to take on Branson. Republic,seeded second, topped Hartville 56-40.

The Tigers had a 25-17 lead at the half, but went ahead by 15 points after three quarters and the Eagles couldn't get close.

Cody Geiger (17 points), Marcus Miller (16 points) and Jake Fletcher (15 points) all scored in double figures for Republic. Seth Hensley finished with 23, accounting for more than half of Hartville's total.

The Bolivar Liberators and Parkview Vikings will meet in the first semifinal game of the Gold Division. 

Bolivar edged unseeded Reeds Spring 44-39 in a low scoring game at JQH Arena. The Wolves were ahead 7-5 at the end of the first quarter and carried an 18-13 lead into halftime. But the Liberators took the lead in the third, holding a 23-22 advantage heading into the fourth period. Bolivar nearly doubled its entire point total in the fourth, scoring 21 points in the frame.

Chance Rash scored 14 to lead the Liberators, while Joey Longstreet's 12 led the way for the Wolves.

Parkview defeated the Marshfield Blue Jays 60-43 in the first quarterfinal game of the night at JQH.

Marshfield stayed close for much of the contest against the top seed. Parkview had a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and 30-23 at the half. Marshfield was within five, 45-40, heading into the fourth period, but after making it 47-40 with 6:48 left in regulation, the Blue Jays allowed the Vikings to go on an 8-0 run to pull away.

Erik Durham's 21 points led the way for the Vikings, who advance to the semifinals Friday night. Blayne Armstrong was Marshfield's leading scorer with 13.

Consolation Bracket:

Skyline ran over Mountain Grove 50-20 to move on to Friday's consolation semifinals. The Tigers were ahead 11-1 after one quarter, and 20-5 at the half, never allowing the Panthers to get close.

Freshman Dylan Mountain's 12 points led Skyline. Harrison Miller had 13 for the Panthers.

Skyline will play Clever. The Blue Jays, the only seeded team to lose in the opening round, held off Mansfield 49-38. Matt Hamilton scored 13 to lead Clever, with Mansfield's Jacob Carusu leading his team with 17 points.

Clever went ahead 13-6 after the first period, and after seeing that margin drop to 18-14 at the half, the Blue Jays extended it to 38-26 at the end of the third.

Spokane defeated Aurora 64-53 in the Gold consolation bracket at Hammons. It stayed close for much of the contest with the Owls leading 12-9 after one quarter and 32-28 at the half. The two teams were tied 41-41 at the end of the third period before the Owls took command in the final eight minutes.

Senior Eric Bowman led all scorers with 21 points for Spokane, while Garrett Bader's 13 was tops for the Houn' Dawgs.

Spokane will meet the host Greenwood Blue Jays in the consolation semis on Friday. The Blue Jays raced to a 15-4 lead after one quarter of play and went on to beat Willow Springs 57-35 at Hammons Center.

Mason Preist was high scorer for Greenwood with 18 points, while Tyler Clinton led the way for Willow with 11.
