Flat Tax Revenue, Dwindling Reserves Part Of Budget
Greene County leaders putting the finishing touches on next year's budget say sales tax revenues should be better than expected.
But budget officer Martha Mundt says they won't be much different than this year.
In fact, county leaders are expecting sales tax revenues to be flat again next year.
Mundt says the county first projected a $2.4 million dollar shortfall -- forcing leaders to make a lot of cuts.
She says the county spent more than a $1-million dollars from its reserve fund.
She says leaders can't afford to do that next year.
The county hopes to rebuild its contingency fund next year to safeguard against emergency spending.
There's a public hearing on the spending plan on January 11.
