Fire crews in Nixa responded to a house fire in the 1500 block of Emerald Drive just after 1:00PM on Friday afternoon.

Flames were shooting out of the house when crews got there but no one was home. The homeowner let firefighters know that her three dogs and a cat were in the basement.

Nixa Fire Protection District was able to save all the animals. The home was considered a total loss but many of the personal belongings were salvageable.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.   To see photos from rescue click here.
