Crash On Westbound I-44 At Mile Marker 8.4

The Joplin Police Department is currently on scene of a single vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 44 westbound at MM 8.4. The semi-truck is turned on its side and has caused one lane of traffic to be closed. The Interstate will be down to one lane for westbound traffic until late this evening sometime. Drivers are urged to avoid this area if at all possible. MoDOT has been notified and they are enroute to assist with traffic.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time and the investigation is continuing. The Joplin Fire Department along with Newton County Ambulance responded to the scene. The driver of the vehicle received minor injuries in the crash. It does not appear that the semi-truck was carrying any hazardous materials.
This crash is still under investigation by the Joplin Police Department Traffic Unit.
