Information from edited news release . . .

Firefighters from the Western Taney County Fire District have been busy in responding to two residential structure fires within 24 hours.

The first fire was reported shortly after 2am on Short St in Rockaway Beach.  When firefighters arrived, they found the occupants of the home had evacuated the residence and flames were visible from one end of the mobile home.  Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit the major fire damage to one end of the home.  An investigation as to how the fire started found the fire started in the back bedroom but the exact cause of the fire could not be determined.

A second fire was reported this evening in Merriam Woods on Linwood Road shortly after 6pm.  The initial report was for a flue fire that while firefighters were responding had extended into the attic and roof of the home.  Firefighters arrived and were able to quickly extinguish the flames and limit the majority of the damage to the living room where the fire place and flue were located.  The homeowner was home when the fire started and was able to make it out of the home safely.

Fortunately in both cases, no one was hurt.
