Cans For Coffee Pours In 57k Meals For Ozarks Food Harvest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Ozarks Food Harvest has received the final donations from the fifth annual McDonalds Cans for Coffee, collecting nearly 30,000 pounds of food. Combined with an added boost of protein from Tyson, the drive will allow Ozarks Food Harvest to distribute more than 57,000 meals to its network of member agencies.
From Oct. 31-Nov. 20, more than 60 Ozarks McDonalds hosted the food drive for Ozarks Food Harvest, encouraging customers to donate a canned good for one free small McCafé® drink of their choice.
We are thankful for McDonalds continued partnership, and for all of the customers who helped make this food drive one of our largest, said Denise Gibson, development director at Ozarks Food Harvest. With help from McDonalds, we can be sure families in need will have groceries in the new year.
Cans for Coffee is not only important to help provide food to struggling southwest Missourians, but it also draws awareness to the complex issue of hunger in our region, Gibson says.
Tyson Foods, Inc. donates a truckload of chicken in the name of the McDonalds Cans for Coffee food drive every year. This year, Tyson gifted 38,400 pounds of frozen chicken.
Since 2008, McDonalds of the Ozarks has collected more than 115,000 pounds of food from community members for Cans for Coffee.
