Flags Lowered For NW Missouri Firefighter
PATTONSBURG, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered flags lowered in northwest Missouri's Daviess County to honor a fire chief who died over the weekend.
Fifty-four-year-old Eddy Meador spent 35 years with the Pattonsburg Fire and Rescue Protection District.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports he died of what the protection district called an apparent heart attack Saturday night, after responding to several emergencies in the previous 24 hours.
The death is classified as occurring in the line of duty.
Nixon ordered flags on state and funeral buildings in the county to be lowered Thursday, when the funeral will take place.
Meador was the district's fire chief for the past 12 years. He was also superintendent of the Pattonsburg water department.
