MSU Volleyball’s Olivia Brand Named MVC Player of the Week
Edited news release from MSU Athletics:
St. LOUIS -- Missouri State sophomore outside hitter Olivia Brand was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday (Nov. 12) for her performance at Wichita State last Friday. The award is Brand’s fourth career weekly accolade from the conference, joining a trio of Freshman of the Week citations last season.
Brand smashed a career-high 23 kills on .362 hitting against the Shockers, adding a career-high six blocks and five digs in four sets. Brand had no fewer than four kills in any set while tallying seven in each of the first two periods.
The Springfield Glendale product’s 23 kills matched a season-high for any Missouri State player, and her 26 points are the most for a Bear in a match this season and the most since Christine McCartney had 26 in October 2010.
The Bears (15-13, 9-7 MVC) host Drake at 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 16) and Creighton at 7 p.m. the next night before the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament comes to Hammons Student Center Nov. 22-24.
