KC-Area Women To Start Female American Legion Post
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Some Kansas City-area women are working to start a females-only American Legion post. The women say they need a special place to talk about issues that are different from male soldiers.
The Kansas City Star reports about 6,000 women veterans live in the Kansas City area.
St. Louis already has an all-women post. Shirley Janes, a member of that post, visited Kansas City last week to discuss the effort.
She says female veterans need a place to discuss their issues, such as sexual trauma and child-care problems.
And others say the camaraderie with other women is an important part of the new post.
Gary Pace, the 5th District commander in Missouri, says there's a lot of interest in women's post and he supports the idea.
