MSU Bears Lead Philander Smith 45-28 At Halftime
The MSU Bears used a 16-2 run to jump out to a 45-28 halftime lead over Philander Smith University in their regular season opener at JQH Arena in Springfield.
The Bears, who trailed to the NAIA team by five points with just under 15 minutes to go in the half, scored 13 of the final 17 points to pull away heading into the locker room.
Senior Anthony Downing and freshmen Gavin Thurman and Marcus Marshall have nine points each to lead the Bears. Clayton Busby's seven points are tops for the Panthers.
The Bears are shooting 47.1% (16-34) at the half, while Philander Smith has gone cold (8-29, 27.6%). MSU has outrebounded the Panthers 26-16.
After tonight's game, Missouri State will be off until Saturday, November 17th when they take on 20th ranked San Diego State at JQH Arena in a 1:05 p.m. tipoff.
