Southern Stone County Firefighters Rescue Snowy Owl
Firefighters in Southern Stone County are used to dealing with crashes, even those involving animals such as dear in the roads, but an usual challenge presented itself this week.
Fire Marshall Mike Creswell found what he thought was a Barred Owl in the middle of the road.
It appeared to be injured and with the help of a passer-by and Detective Sergeant Smigel from Kimberling City Police they planned to take it to a local vet.
As Crewell used kevlar gloves and a coat to coax the bird into a vehicle, he says something amazing happened.
"He wiggled some then hopped up on my hand and with a wooosh he spread his wings and gracefully flew away towards the trees." Crewell said.
He says that in a job where they deal with lots death and destruction, it was a good change of pace.
