A home west of Nixa is a total loss after flames broke out just before 4:30 this morning. Assistant Fire Chief Whitney Weaver says eight other departments joined crews from Nixa in fighting the flames in the 1100 block of north Hidden Spring Road in the Pebble Creek subdivision.

The flames were shooting through the roof when crews arrived. Everyone inside made it out safely thanks to a working smoke alarm, but a family pet was lost. The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Due to the location of the fire, water had to be shuttled by nine tankers from the Delaware Town River access.

Weaver says this fire is proof that smoke alarms and escape planning save lives, and families should always plan two ways out of a burning home.
