Staff Wants Homeless Shelter Bill Returned To Zoning Commission
Edited news release from the City of Springfield:
Springfield City staff will request City Council to remand Council Bill 2012-190, prohibiting homeless overnight shelters from locating near schools and making other changes regarding shelters in general, back to Planning & Zoning Commission for further consideration and possible changes.
According to Planning & Development Director Ralph Rognstad, staff heard from service providers with concerns about some of the bill's provisions, causing it to warrant a second look.
The proposed zoning rule change would have gone for a public hearing at tonight's City Council meeting.
In other City Hall news: The heating system is functioning and should be a comfortable temperature, according to Public Works Director Phil Broyles.
