The National Weather Service says the possibility of quarter sized hail prompted it to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Wright County.

The warning was issued at 8:11 am and in effect until 8:45am. Forecasters say Mansfield, Hartville, Norwood and Mountain Grove were all in line for some heavy rain and the chance for marginally severe hail.

The weather service says the storm showed signs of weakening and it planned to let the warning expire at 8:45.

A lightning strike is believed to be responsible for downed tree limbs this morning on Cheyenne Road near High Point Elementary School in Nixa as storms moved through Christian County.
