It's October, and cooler weather will soon be here.
It's also a good time to check your home - furnace filters may have to be changed, fireplaces inspected and make sure that you and your family have an escape plan in case of a fire.,
Springfield firefighters will be going into the schools this month with fire prevention tips that could save lives.
If you don't have a smoke alarm, call the department at 864-1500 and you'll have one delivered to your home and installed for free.
