A priest, a gunman, and a SWAT team were involved in a situation at a church in south Springfield on Tuesday night. Police are not calling it a hostage situation, but rather a vandal that got caught in the act.

Lieutenant Scott Umbarger says a priest and a church member at Immaculate Conception off Primrose and Fremont noticed some things had been torn up. They came across the young man believed responsible and he pulled out a gun.

Umbarger says police showed up and everyone inside came out, including the gunman. But then the suspect ran back inside the building. He was eventually coaxed out. Nobody wound up getting hurt.

Police sent the SWAT team in to make sure no one else was inside.
