Edited news release from Greene County Prosecutors Office . .

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson announces that David A. Besaw Jr., 28, of Springfield, Missouri, was sentenced  for sexually abusing his girlfriend’s daughter.  

Besaw had been subjecting the victim to oral and anal intercourse for several years.  The victim made a delayed disclosure because she had been warned by the defendant not to tell. The victim finally told authories at her school because the rest of her family was going on a long-term vacation and she was going to be left alone with Besaw for that entire time.  

The victim also disclosed that she often complied with Besaw’s request for oral sex because Besaw would threaten to “make it worse” if she did not comply.  

 At the time of sentencing, Besaw was being held in Greene County Jail.  He had been previously released on a bond of $60,000.  Besaw had numerous conditions of bond which included no contact with the victim’s mother and not to be within 1000 feet of the victim’s residence.

However, in February 2012, detectives with the Springfield
Police Department located Besaw hiding in the victim’s home.  The victim’s mother was present at the time that the detectives located Besaw.  Following that discovery, Besaw’s bond was revoked and he was held in the Greene County Jail in lieu of
$250,000.00 bond.   

On August 2, 2012, Besaw pled guilty to four counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree and four counts of statutory sodomy in the second degree.  Today, Besaw was sentenced by The Honorable Calvin Holden to 17 years in the Missouri Department
of Corrections on the statutory sodomy in the first degree convictions and 7 years in the Missouri Department of orrections on the statutory sodomy in the second degree
