Update: 250 CU Customers Out Of Power In Hard To Reach Areas
Edited news release
Severe storms that passed through Springfield on Friday damaged electric structures throughout the CU service territory. Line and tree crews began restoration efforts immediately after the weather moved out of the Springfield area. Additional contract utility crews arrived to assist with restoration efforts to what we estimate to be 10,000 customers without electric service.
Restoration work continued through Friday night and Saturday. As of 9:30 p.m Saturday, approximately 250 customers remain without electric service. Crews will again work through the night to restore electric service and more crews are arriving to provide help.
Straight line winds of up to 80 miles per hour severely damaged or broke utility poles with falling trees and limbs tearing down power lines. Areas of the city with older trees have seen the most damage and outages. Restoration work is taking longer in these areas, due to crews having to remove trees and debris before repairs can begin.
