Update: Details Emerge Following Deadly Motorcycle Crash In Springfield
What started as a traffic stop at Chestnut and Glenstone in Springfield ended as a fatal crash a few blocks away.
KTTS News reporter Joe Rios talked with Margie Shanks, who lives near the crash scene at Fremont and Brower. Shanks says she heard a loud crash and rushed to see smoke and flames shooting from a car that had been hit by a motorcycle. The car's driver was laying in Shanks' yard, having run from the wreckage when flames broke out. They were treated for minor injuries.
Police Lieutenant Robert Pitts tells KTTS News the motorcycle had been pulled over just a few minutes earlier and fled from officers at Chestnut and Glenstone, taking off down an alleyway and onto Brower Street.
Pitts says officers got a call just minutes later about a crash between a motorcycle and a car just a few blocks away. They arrived to find the motorcycle from earlier wedged under a car at Brower and Fremont.
Pitts says the rider ignored the stop sign on Brower and hit the car while speeding. The impact pushed the car about 20 feet. The rider was killed. His name has not been released.
