Man Shoots At Deputies, Burns Car To Ground During Standoff
A man in Wright County is behind bars tonight after shooting at officers and burning a deputies patrol car to the ground.
The call came in north of Grove Springs in the eight o'clock hour Saturday night for a check well being. The man came running out shooting at the officers. Wright County Sheriff Adler tells KTTS News that a deputy and Hartville police officer had to retreat over a half mile to wait for backup.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol sent Troop G with a chopper from Jefferson City and Troop D in Springfield with an armored car.
Officials believe the man used a tractor to ram the deputies car after they retreated. It was burned to the ground. A K-9 inside managed to escape.
The Highway Patrol helicopter tracked the man during a brief foot pursuit before police were able to take him into custody. No one was injured in the incident.
