The St. Louis Cardinals are starting backup catcher Tony Cruz for the third straight game as Yadier Molina works out tightness in his back.

When asked by reporters before Friday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium, Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny indicated his all star catcher might be ready to go this weekend, "He's still tight, so it's going to be another day," Matheny said. "He's better today. I think he's going to be fine, and that's just coming from information we're getting medically. He's making strides forward, so with that being said, we know we're closer to having him back. We're hopeful about tomorrow."

Molina felt tight before Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but played. He was replaced by Cruz in the lineup Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The Cardinals come into play tonight one game behind the Pirates for the second wildcard spot in the National League.Game time at Busch Stadium in St. Louis is 7:15.
