Democrat Withdraws From Associate District One Race In Greene County
It looks like longtime Greene County commissioner Harold Bengsch is all but guaranteed another term.
The Democratic candidate for the district one seat, Earl Slavens has withdrawn from the race.
Slavens says he ran because he was concerned, "the right-wing of the Republican Party(Tea Party) would wage a campaign against the two moderate Republican associate commissioners and should they win have a free ride in the general election in District 1." Slavens said he could not let that happen so he filed in the best interests of the citizens of Greene County.
Slavens, who served as a Greene County Commissioner in the late '70s says he is stepping down because he thinks Bengsch will do what's best for the county.
