MoDot Allowing Heavier Loads Of Grain On Highways
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - As the harvest season approaches, farmers around the state are watching river levels in light of the drought. Lower water levels on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers can limit producers' ability to move grain and other farm products by barge. The state department of Agriculture and the state department of Transportation have agreed to allow heavier than normal loads of grain during the harvest season. Farmers, private and for hire motor carriers may carry up to 10 percent more than their licensed weight on Missouri highways. However, the heavier loads will not be allowed on interstate routes. All other traffic and motor carrier regulations that normally apply remain in place. The waiver will be in effect through December 31, 2012.
