(Missourinet) -  It's back to school in Springfield and other school districts around Missouri this week.

MoDot says there were more than 2,000 crashes around school zones in Missouri last year.

While nobody was killed,  lots of people - drivers and walkers are putting their lives on the line because they're distracted by cell phones, gaming devices, tablet, Mp3 players, etc.

The message from transportation officials is simple:  Pay attention.

Distracted driving continues to be the leading cause of accidents in our state, and now distracted WALKING is putting more pedestrians at risk.
