A new,  state-of-the-art public safety center is about to open in Springfield.

The building will be the new home for Springfield-Greene County Emergency management, as well as the 911 emergency dispatch center.

The building at Boonville and Scott will also include an emergency command center from which dozens of agencies can coordinate operations around the clock in the event of a disaster.

The new $20 million, three story building can withstand the strength of an EF-5 tornado the size of the one that hit Joplin in May of 2011.

The ribbon is being cut at 10 a.m.
