A fire department captain tells KTTS News, two dogs have died in a fire that damaged a home on west Walnut near downtown Springfield.
Crews arrived at the house about three and a half minutes after the 9-1-1 call made by a renter coming home at around 12:30 Saturday afternoon.
The fire appears to have started on the second floor.
A fire marshal will be looking for the cause and will also decide if five people who live in two apartments will be allowed to return.
