City Utilities Proposing Series Of Water Rate Hikes
Water bills for customers of Springfield City Utilities may soon be on the rise.
A proposed three dollar a month increase would begin in October of next year, with similar monthly hikes in October of 2014 and 2015.
A company spokesman says the increase would be used to replace and repair aging water mains that in some cases are more than 100 years old, others between 50 and 100 years old.
A public hearing and meeting of the Citizens Advisory Council is set for Thursday, at 3:30 p.m. in the board room of City Utilities.
If approved, the proposal would move forward to the board for formal consideration.
It would also have to be approved by Springfield City council.
