Fortunately nobody was home when flames broke out south of Fair Grove this afternoon, but Fire Chief Mark Raymond says the house is a total loss.

Firefighters were called to Farm Road 197 and Farm Road 48. Thick smoke could be seen for miles.

Chief Raymond says flames quickly spread from the house to two sheds next door, then started to go into the woods.

Crews from Ebenezer, Strafford, Pleasant View, and Pleasant Hope trucked in water and manpower to get it all under control.

Chief Raymond says they don't yet know how the fire started.
