Armored Car Triggers Grass Fire In Taney County

On 7/20/12 at approx. 4:30pm the Western Taney Co. Fire Protection District responded to the 22.6 mile marker of northbound Hwy 65 for report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a Dodge Sprinter van fully involved in flames spreading to the right of way.

It took firefighter aprrox. 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. The fire destroyed the van and burned approx. 1/8 acre of grass along the right of way.

The van was an armored car owned by the Garda Co. Both northbound lanes were shut down approx. 20 minutes while the fire was extinguished. One lane was shut down for approx. 1 hour while contents of the vehicle were transferred to another vehicle by Garda employees and the van was removed.

The fire started in the engine compartment of the van.
