JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Black smoke billowed over the Missouri Capitol after a vehicle caught fire in a nearby parking garage.
The fire occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday as state employees were arriving to work. Two Jefferson City fire trucks responded to the blaze, and police diverted traffic around the Capitol.
The burning car appeared to be a sport utility vehicle or minivan that was parked in a garage just west of the Capitol building. Flames shot up toward the concrete ceiling of the garage, but it was not immediately clear if there was any structural damage.
