Cape Girardeau Police Chief Leaving Department

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Cape Girardeau's police chief is leaving that job for a teaching position at Southeast Missouri State University. Fifty-five-year-old Carl Kinnison has been with the department for more than 30 years, the last seven as chief. The Southeast Missourian reports he submitted his resignation this week, effective Aug. 1. Kinnison has taught part-time at the university for 15 years. He expects to begin teaching full-time this fall in the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology. Kinnison began working for the police department in 1978 as a part-time animal control officer.
