A fire in Christian County was caused by parachute fireworks.
From a press release...
Crews from several departments responded to a 3 acre grass fire
this afternoon in the 2100 block of N. Hazeltine Rd in Christian
County.
Due to the location on the dividing line of Battlefield and Nixa
Fire Protection Districts, both departments responded. Due to the
fire spreading quickly an additional brush truck was requested
from Republic Fire. Although several homes were in danger,
firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading into any
homes.
The investigation found that a “parachute” type firework was the
cause of the fire in an open field; the fire quickly spread in the
dry grass over approximately 3 acres. Fire officials were told by
the homeowner “I thought I could grab the parachute as soon as
it landed, but it hit the ground and spread like gasoline”.
No injuries were reported.
